Event Report: An opportunity presented with a club event cancellation so a short notice pack carry event was arranged. We left Albury about 1pm on the Friday and drove to Snakey Plain track head and started walking about 5pm. There is a steep and demanding climb over the first 3 km over the Dargals range and undulating country beyond. Approaching the hut about 8pm I remembered a short cut from the 4wd track heading west across a creek to the hut. Unfortunately we left the track too soon and got into some very difficult scrub. Eventually broke through it to reach the hut a half hour later but this is definitely not a route I would like to take again!![]() On Sat morning we walked down to the Tooma river and decided it was so delightful that we wanted to camp there - so we returned to the hut got our gear and crossed the river (knee high wade) and setup camp ![]() ![]() Later on we followed the river upstream for about an hour alternating between leafy bossiaea shrubbery and rock hopping and thoroughly enjoyed the river environment. ![]() ![]() Sunday morning we walked out to Tooma Dam via Patons Hut where we stopped for a bite to eat and some reminiscing - I used to bring my kids into this hut and have some great memories. PATON FROST But for me the attraction was the fabulous flora at this time of year in this section of the Kosciusko National Park - while perhaps not as brilliant as the last time I visited (Dec 2008) it was nevertheless a real treat. ![]() ![]() ![]() GPS data available from the MVB website here GPS DATA |
