Event Report: Paddle and Party - this is the fifth year in a row we have run a canoeing and partying event on the Ovens and Murray rivers at Bundalong to celebrate the season and have some great paddling. For the second year we based at Shirley and Garys place (known as Toscana) at Esmond which has Ovens River access. ![]() The Saturday event was well supported with 16 members wandering around the maze of channels with superb native vegetation down to the waters edge - this is Warby-Ovens National Park renowned for its heritage river status because there are no upstream dams controlling flow rates. Gary ![]() Shirley ![]() We headed south to Goblet Reserve winding in and out of channels in beautiful weather - see the short video below ![]() Determined to perform a loop the navigator armed with a GPS or two got a bit confused between north and south on the return loop and a compass was consulted! Spot the mistake(s)! ![]() The xmas party followed the Sat paddle and you can refer to the MVB Facebook site for photos uploaded by Judy. Suffice to say it was a raging success as it has been since Dec 2015 The Sunday paddle with 9 on board got away before 10am and was the traditional route down to Williams Bridge then north via a route that takes us through to a channel to the Murray. The channel however was very well covered with bullrushes and willow trees! ![]() ![]() But everyone got through safely ![]() The cruise down the Murray to Bundalong wharf was challenging due to the number of speedboats - they werent interested in slowing down for us paddlers. The boats were picked up and returned to Murray River Canoe Hire and another great Xmas paddle was complete. Click here for GPS DATA |
