Event Report: This was a great weekend event thoroughly enjoyable. We stayed at the Riverside Caravan Park at Walwa and found it very comfortable. The autumn break had arrived so a warm sleeping bags and warming fire at night were greatly appreciated. As none of us had Upper Murray paddling experience we were a bit tentative about committing to long paddles in unfamiliar water. However it was decided to drive up the river to Neils Bend and canoe back to the campground on the Saturday and this was achieved relatively easily. There is a rapids area about 2km upstream of the campground but it was successfully negotiated. Later that day 4 paddlers carried on down the river to Jingellic pub. Sunday we decided to repeat the Neils Bend to campground paddle and then after a coffee break in the arvo continued on downstream this time to Gadds Bend about 4km past Jingellic. Map of the paddles we completed below from Google Earth Thanks to photographers Kat Wachnowska, Cheryl McCarten, David Amery and Tony Marsh for contributions - click the link below to go to our Flickr site to see heaps more photos of this event |
