A 4 day walk to Cowombat Flat, the source of the Murray, start of the 'Dotted Line' State border, and a visit to The Pilot, the first big mountain in Kosciuszko NP. Beautiful remote country, much wildlife, kangaroos, emus, feral horses. see maps and descriptions below!

DAY 2 daywalk to the first cairn on the dotted line border, and the source of the Murray R., explore the Flat, swim in the baby murray. (12km) Day 3, climb The Pilot, 1828m magnificent views of all the big mountains (14km, daypacks, 600m climb) DAY 4 walk back to cars (13km), drive home. Medium walking with pack, undulating 4wd track, part of the Alpine Walking Track. More info see pp 153-157 'Australian Alps Walking Track book by Chapmans and Siseman.
This is a remote area and people need to be confident they can carry enough food and equipment for 3 nights, although you're only carrying it all for the 12km walk in along the jeep track.. There is very limited mobile coverage (only on top of The Pilot in fact).
