Kayak Grade 3 - Bonegilla Island to Wonga Wetlands
Bonegilla Island to Wonga Wetlands Kayak trip
This is the third time we have offered this event.
This year we will start from Ryans Creek and follow it to the Murray rather than the Kiewa River in the past two years which has problematic willow tree issues
Ryans Creek is accessed from the Waterworks Road in east Albury
Adventurous paddlers may choose to paddle upstream 100 metres or so to see the weir before heading downstream - this is optional however.
We will hire sit ons from Dave Breedon who will meet us at Noreuil Park Cumberoona Wharf and transport us to Bonegilla
Cost will be $30 plus a contribution to travel expenses to be determined depending on numbers but a maximum of $10
If you want to use your own boat you will need to make arrangements yourself for transport to Bonegilla and from Wonga Wetlands
Dave will then pick us and the boats up at Wonga Wetlands
Total stream length is 18 km - about 3-4 hours paddling full of variety and excitement
Streams we will be exploring are:
Ryans Creek 2km
Murray River 4km
Wodonga Creek 7km
Carrolls Creek 3km
Dead River (old Murray River channel) 1km
The trip is not for beginners due to it's duration and river hazards such as the snags and fast currents most likely to be experienced in the Wodonga Creek. Single sit on kayaks are suitable.
We will meet at Cumberoona Wharf Noreuil Park at 8.00am; embark at 9.00am from Bonegilla on the Ryans Creek; lunch for up to an hour from 11.30pm at Diamond Park on Wodonga Creek on the Lincoln Causeway; arrive at Dead River near Wonga Wetlands at around 2pm; returning to Noreuil Park by 3-00pm.
Remember to bring your own food water and sun protection
