Lake Cobbler Reconnaissance Car Camp with Grade 3 Day Walks 10km
Lake Cobbler in the Victorian Alpine NP will be the base for this exploratory event. This site has basic camping facilities, water and a drop toilet.
This trip is a mid week reconnoitre for a possible MVB car camp to take place later this year
Meet at 4 Jamison drive Baranduda 8am
Access: It is approx a 3 hour drive to Lake Cobbler camping area from Wodonga via Myrtleford and Nug Nug, the Upper Rose River road and Bennies camping area on the Rose River – total distance about 150km from Wodonga. The road from Bennies into Lake Cobbler is able to be completed in a carefully driven 2 wheel drive in dry weather, however if it has been raining a four wheel drive may be necessary. The road is narrow and some rocks protrude which are easily dodged at low speed
Activities may include a range of easy to hard walks, including the headwaters of the Dandongadale Falls on the edge of the Lake Cobbler plateau (easy), geocaching (easy) , Mt Cobbler and Mt Koonika (medium).
We may attempt to drive to Camp Creek below Mt Speculation but it will depend entirely on the road conditions - hence the recce nature of this trip
There are several areas that you can camp at Lake Cobbler or on the way camping is available at Bennies on the Rose River about 22km from the lake. No camping costs will be incurred at either place. Fresh drinking water should be taken.

Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience recommended. Track may have short steep hill sections, a rough surface and many steps.
What To Bring for Day Walking in the Alps
- Activities in the Alps require additional safety equipment due to the fact that weather can change really quickly from benign to dangerous
- Current Medical Information Form - LOGIN FIRST and then it can be FOUND ON THE WEBSITE HERE
- Water - 2 litres recommended - exercise in the Alps uses prodigious amounts of fluid
- Sunscreen
- Gloves and hat
- Sufficient food bearing in mind the distance and duration of the event (snacks for morning and afternoon tea and lunch)
- Suitable clothing and footwear - note denim pants are uncomfortable
- Wet weather waterproofs, jacket and pants
- Thermal top and bottoms
- Walking poles
- Gaiters
- Basic first aid kit including your specific medication eg asthma applicator
- Torch or headlamp for contingencies
- Whistle
- Toilet paper, trowel and sanitiser
- A set of dry clothing in a separate bag to be left in the car to change into if you get wet
