Dinner Plain Grade 3 snowshoe & 3 night snow camp CANCELLED DUE TO WEATHER EVENT

From July 27, 2023 1:00 pm until July 30, 2023 12:30 pm
Hits: 3045

Please note event will go ahead subject to weather.  Please bring your own/borrow or hire snowshoes as the club no longer has any.

Snow chains are required to be carried.

Just a short step from Dinner Plain, yet offering a great sense of remoteness, this walking track offers a fantastic snapshot of a
sub-alpine environment. It traverses varying landscapes and a range of habitats - scenic snow gum forests and mature Mountain Tea Tree bushland, snow grass plains, wetlands and alpine rivers and streams. Along the way there are many great places to stop for a picnic or rest or simply to enjoy the fresh mountain air.

Camping
You can park vehicles at Dinner Plain and walk 1.4km to JB Hut or park cars on side of road and walk less than 1km to Hut. The Hut is not available to camp in, and you'll need cooking equipment and food. Because vehicles can be parked very close to the Hut, it is easier to bring your own water, rather than depend on the hut supply or use a lot of gas to melt snow.  It's an ideal spot for a first snow camp.

When you book, let me know which nights you will be camping.

Snow shoeing distances will depend on the group and weather conditions.

GRADE 3

Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Some bushwalking experience recommended. Track may have short steep hill sections, a rough surface and many steps.
