Requirements for Guests / Visitors to MVB Events
It is an additional leader responsibility in an event to have visitors participate
There are two aspects of having guests and visitors joining the club members on official club events.
We want visitors to be covered by the same insurace coverage as members are so to achieve that you must fill in an acknoeledgedment of risk form
That can be done prior to the event so that give the leader time to process
Secondly the leader is obliged by our club policy (and by a duty of care to the partiicpants) to have in his/her possession an up to date list of the persons attending the event and the contact details of an emergency contt person

Comments made by Lin Starke MVB member and regular paddler
I came past the point last night where the couple capsized today, in a canoe and noted then a piece of 2 to 3 inch alkathene piping on the right hand post. There was also heavy chain wrapped around the pipe and the post. This material protruded 1m to the right and almost 2 metres to the left of the post. We were drilled in safety procedures before we got onto the water, and I steered the canoe through the centre of the 2 posts where the accident happened. There are snags on the river and some are there over a period of time. Maybe it's time for flags for snags. Who inspects and who marks the snags, - I don't know if anyone has responsibility. Between Echuca and Barmah there are numbered markers in the trees along the river. Not here, but would be useful for identifying to recuers where to find people. A swimmer, life jacket wearer, and candidate for further training. There's an old bit of fishermans wisdom. Never take your eyes off the water. It's such a joy to travel down the river, watching for platypus, enjoying the cool, supported by the group.

What Weve Been Up To
Nail Can Hill Evening Walk
Nine members enjoyed another great evening walk on the Goat Track Nail Can Hill on another beautiful moonlit evening led by Peter Presutti. This is the fifth Thursday night walk in a row and all have been enjoyable. After the walk dinner at the Garrison Hotel was an enjoyable finish to the night.
XC Skiing Falls Creek
Falls Creek XC Skiing for beginners and the more advanced has proven a popular winter activity. A group of 4 had another great ski in fairly ordinary weather conditions last Saturday. Cold and overcast weather makes for great snow (and photography).
Bushwalking Old Coach Road Chiltern
Five members enjoyed a walk along stage 3 of Old Coach Road on Sunday 5 August. There were 3 seasons in one day with the last gasps of Winter with cold winds, Spring rain and then lovely warm sunshine. A very interesting walk with the first signs of an early spring with early blooms of Nodding Blue Lillies, Egg and Bacon and Happy Wanderer.

Leadership training weekend
The club is very excited by the commitment that has been made by volunteers from the VNPA to run this training activity that will help skill up persons interested in leading club events.
Check the event calendar for the weekend of Oct 20/21 - expressions of interest in participating would be very welcome.
Membership Renewal
Thanks to those members who have subscribed again - we greatly appreciate your support.
The largest cost we incur is insurance renewal - we had to provide an estimate a few months ago of the number of members we will require insurance for and of course based our estimates on the number of financial members at that time. However the number of financial members of MVB at the moment is less than half what it was a month ago. Members are our life blood. You can help us meet the insurance bill by renewing your membership.
If you are unsure as to when you are financial to you can send Tony an email or give him a ring.
To renew choose the Join, Renew Membership now menu path.
Please note that renewing members should complete and submit an annual acknowledgement of risks form. This only needs to be done once and then releases you from having to sign a risk form for each event. If youve recently renewed and missed the acknowledgement of risk form you can find it here
Funding Submissions
The NSW Sport and Recreation Participation and Facility Program (PFP) is open for applications again - we applied unsuccessfully last year but will apply again.
